Ottawa Boys Choir Code of Conduct 2024

In order to ensure that choir offers a fun, safe learning space for everyone, the OBC has outlined a code of conduct and guidelines for choristers and their parents. It is important for all choristers and parents to remember that our choir is made up of a range of children of different ages, musical ability and experience, and socio-cultural backgrounds. But a choir functions as a team, so the more we work together the more productive and enjoyable the experience!

Choristers

OBC wants you to have fun, while learning and performing to the best of your ability.

Help yourself by
  1. Having confidence in yourself and your voice;
  2. Practising your choir music regularly;
  3. And taking care of your music binder and bringing it with you to rehearsal.
Support your fellow choristers by
  1. Being encouraging of their efforts, including offering praise of their singing and assistance if needed;
  2. Remaining quiet and attentive when the director is speaking or when he/she is explaining something to an individual chorister or to the whole group;
  3. And remaining quiet while the director is rehearsing individual sections of the choir.

Parents

Please try to
  1. Encourage your children to practise 4-5 times/week, for 10-20 minutes;
  2. Have your children show up 5-10 minutes before the start of rehearsal;
  3. Be respectful of other parents and their children;
  4. Contact the choir manager if your child needs to miss a rehearsal;
  5. Ensure your child's regular attendance, while also taking care not to send your child if they are feeling unwell or have COVID symptoms;
  6. And be ready to speak with the choir manager/choir director to work out strategies if your child is having trouble staying attentive during rehearsals.
Parent/guardian acknowledgment of the behaviour guideline is required at the beginning of the year by signing the OBC Form
